Car Insurance MINI (Car Insurance). How do you bypass the inertia switch/fuel cut off switch? How do you bypass the inertia switch/fuel cut off switch? I have a 1994 Ford Escrot Wagon LX 1.9 Enginge, and the inertia switch randomly pops up and shuts off my engine. I have read online that you can bypass, I am just not sure how. Any info is appreciated. Thanks! You don't. If you have one that isn't working as it should, replace it. The whole idea is to shut off the fuel flow in a wreck, you don't want to bypass it. Ge here to find the reset switch. The inertia switch is just that, a circuit interrupter. The two wires going into the switch need to be connected as if the switch weren't there at all, just splice them together.. HOWEVER, I do not advise bypassing this safety devise, do so at your own liability. A fuel pump continued running after an accident, feeding a fire that resulted in un-necessary deaths, which is the reason Ford products use them. The switches are relatively inexpensive at almost any parts store! Auto parts : Grommet Acura 1995 . Harmonic Balancer Alfa Romeo 1996 . Knock Sensor Module Audi 1997 . Lock Washer BMW 1998 . Can I make a dealership buy back my car? Can I make a dealership buy back my car? I bought a 2006 Mustang a year ago from a used car dealership here in Reno NV. At the time everything was great. Everything was in line with the contract and the bank. Come a year later when it was time to register the car again; a smog was required. The car was 'rejected.' Four times. I had a feeling it had something to due to a possible custom tuning to the vehicle computer, which I did not do. Hence it was done prior to me buying the car. I took it to a local performance shop and sure enough, there is a custom tune on the car making the car be rejected at a smog check. With this custom tune there is no way it would have passed smog legitimately. Like I said before, when I bought the car everything was in line including the required smog check, which I now believe was falsified. Would this false smog constitute as "false representation" giving me the right to have the dealership buy back the car? car insurance. Auto parts : Oil Filler Tube Jaguar 1997. Oil Filter Jeep 1998. MINI . How to Remove a Door Panel on a 1996 Chevy PickupThe door panels on a 1996 Chevy pickup truck are held in place on the door by a small bolt. The bolts are at the bottom of the door panel and on the arm rest. You will need a ratchet set complete with small socket. All of the securing bolt will be standard and all of the bolts will be in basically the same spot on each Chevy truck model. After you have removed the securing bolts from the frame you will need to disconnect the wires from any electrical components that are connected to the door panel. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Ratchet set Step by Step : 1 Park the 1996 Chevy on a level surface with plenty of light. Open the doors and locate the securing bolts on the bottom of the door and on the arm rest. 2 Remove the securing bolts from the bottom edge and from the arm rest using the ratchet set. Keep the bolts where you will not misplace them. 3 Pull the door panel away from the door. Locate the wires on any components and disconnect the wires before you pull the door panel off of the door. 4 Pull the door panel off of the frame and away from the door. 5 Repeat these steps for any additional door panel that you need to remove from a 1996 Chevy pickup truck.
MINI . How to Troubleshoot the PCM in a Chevy TruckThe PCM, or powertrain control module, in your Chevy truck serves as the on-board diagnostic computer for your vehicle. The PCM controls everything from air-to-fuel ratio to generating fault or trouble codes for critical vehicle systems. If your PCM fails your Chevy truck can experience a wide range of problems. The only way to diagnose a faulty PCM is to use a special tool, called an on-board diagnostic scan tool, or "OBD" scan tool. These tools are available from most auto parts stores. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need OBD scan tool Step by Step : 1 Locate the OBD port in your Chevy truck. In your Chevy, the port will be located to the left of the fuse panel. You may or may not need to remove the fuse panel depending on your model and year of Chevy truck. 2 Plug the OBD scan tool plug into the OBD port. 3 Turn the ignition key to the "II" position and read the OBD scan tool screen display. A reading of: "P0600," "P0601," "P0602," "P0603," "P0604," "P0605," "P0606," "P0607," "P0608," "P0609" or "P0610" indicates a critical failure of the PCM in your Chevy truck. The PCM will need to be replaced. *Auto Repair For Dummies Hou) I Became Intimately \nVoiVed u/ith My Car (and Why fault Want to Bo It, Too) Before I moved to California, I was an ordinary urban cliff dweller: I had only a nodding acquaintance with cars. Ours was locked up in a garage, to be summoned forth by my husband for excursions to "the country"; otherwise, I used subways, buses, and taxis. All the maintenance on our car was done by the garage that housed it. My sole contribution to our automotive life was choosing the color whenever we bought a new vehicle, and my main purpose in getting a driver's license was so that I could go to the supermarket during our summers in the country or drive down to the lake for a swim. I rarely, if ever, drove in the city because doing so seemed a cross between foolishness and suicide. When we moved to California, I must confess that my enthusiasm for a life in the sun was considerably dampened by the knowledge that this would also include a life on the freeway, but then I began to sow my oats. It started with a solo marketing excursion, and then that marvelous feeling of freedom that 88

Because the family budget had been considerably strained by the move West, the best I could do was a six-year-old Mustang with more than 70,000 miles on it. A friend of mine who had grown up in Los Angeles — and was therefore a qualified automotive expert — checked out the car and pronounced it drivable. He said that it might need "a little work." We took it to a reliable mechanic, who checked it over, tuned it up, and told me that it was "a classic." Thus reassured, I drove the car to the Department of Motor Vehicles to regis ter it. I parked the car, turned off the ignition, locked it, and found that, sitting there in the middle of the parking lot, the car was singing! A bit puzzled, I rechecked the ignition and the radio, but everything was truly shut off. And still the car sang. By the time I returned, all was quiet. But that night, when I took the family out to dinner, old Tweety Bird began to sing again. Several weeks of filling and refilling the radiator, changing the coolant, putting gunk MINI . But when I found out, many dollars later, that all she had needed was a new $2 radiator cap, I was made abruptly aware of two things: v* Tweety was mine, and my responsibility. If she didn't work, I wasn't going to be able to, either. V0 It would be impossible to enter this symbiotic relationship properly if I didn't know anything about her, because the garage bills were going to send both of us down the drain. Introduction So I conned a friend of mine (who happened to have two sets of automotive tools) into taking an auto shop class with me at a local adult education center. I discovered that cars are pretty simple things to deal with. Instead of a bewildering array of weird metal objects and miles of hoses that threatened to blow up if I turned a screw in the wrong direction, I soon found that a car is just a series of simple Rube Goldberg mechanisms linked together (with a computer thrown in now and then that even professional mechanics need specialists to deal with). Most maintenance, tune-ups, and many repairs involve only a few, isolated gadgets, and cars are very good about sending out signals telling you clearly what's wrong — if you know how to hear, see, smell, or feel them. Before long, it was no longer enough to be able to communicate with a mechanic; I wanted to be the mechanic myself whenever possible. I learned that the best way to work on a vehicle is to handle it like a baby — take a firm grip on things and do the job without mincing around. Not only did I save money, but Tweety began running better, and I found that I was having fun! To share the good news with everyone else, I sat down and wrote the first edition of this book. I called it.4ufo Repair for Dummies because that's the only title that I would have been willing to take a chance on before I realized how easy this stuff really is. Doing it yourself can really pay off in terms of dollars and cents. The major difference between doing the work yourself and taking it to a professional is that professional mechanics often try the most potentially lucrative solution first. If that doesn't do it, they try the next thing, and continue to try things until they hit the right one. This method can cost you a bundle. On the other hand, when you do the diagnosing, you can try the cheaper solutions first. For example, if your engine has been overheating constantly, you replace the radiator cap, pressure-test the system, and check the coolant level and the thermostat before buying and installing a new water pump. And if it finally comes down to changing the pump, you try to find a rebuilt one and install it yourself (which is usually not difficult). The money you save is well worth the effort. MINI . You may even, as I did, enter into the closest relationship you'll ever have with an inanimate object. Of course, the term inanimate isn't really accurate. When you realize that a car exhibits most of the symptoms of life — it's self-propelled, reacts to outside stimuli, consumes fuel and discharges wastes, and even manages to sing a little tune now and then — it's really hard not to respond to it as though it were another living thing. Of course, how far you go along with this idea is your own business. It's not a prerequisite for getting into auto repair, but it helps. Auto Repair For Dummies Houl 1 Picture \!ou In order to make this book as relevant, readable, and enjoyable as possible, I envisioned it as a friendly conversation with the kind of person I felt would want to read it. Here's the mental portrait of my readers that I kept in mind: j> You're intelligent and may know a great deal about a lot of things (law, business, literature, medicine, and other nonautomotive subjects), but you need some help when it comes to cars. u* You're tired of living as a "closet dummy" who nods and smiles at the incomprehensible mutterings of your mechanic, only to end up shelling out money for repairs that you neither fully understand nor always need. V* You've decided that it simply isn't worth the extra money to have other people do things for you that you can do yourself. W You're tired of other people assuming (especially if you're a teenager or a woman) that you aren't capable of handling repairs yourself. e* You're tired of feeling helpless in an emergency and want to be able to troubleshoot and deal with breakdowns and accidents so that you can cope with the unexpected. v* You want to keep a good vehicle in good condition without paying dearly to have someone else do the maintenance, or you simply want to keep your old heap running just a little longer without spending a lot of money on it. Basically, it covers everything you need to know to care for and maintain your vehicle, from what tools you need (whether you borrow or buy them), to how to perform a tune-up, to how to fix common problems. To help Introduction you find information easily, this book is divided into six parts, each containing chapters that deal with a particular topic. The following sections describe the information that you can find in each part. Part I: Getting Started If you want the basics, this is the part for you. I cover things that everyone who drives should know, like how decide whether you want to do a job yourself, how to get the hood open, how to use a jack and change a tire, and how to take anything apart and put it back together again. A monthly under-thehood check that can prevent 70 percent of highway breakdowns, and a bunch of easy repair jobs, should transform you from an "I-can Y-do-it-myselfer" into a hands-on mechanic.
